Hoops: NBA rookie here for Big Island camp

NBA Sacramento Kings rookie Jon Brockman will be the special guest/coach for the Hawai'i Island Hoops' 2K10 College-Prep Basketball Camp to be held from May 31-June 4 at the Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua-Kona.

Brockman, a 6-foot-7, 255-pound center-forward, was an All-American at the University of Washington in 2008-09 and was drafted 38th overall in the NBA draft.

He also was the recipient of the Chip Hilton Player of the Year Award, conferred to the nation's top player demonstrating outstanding character, leadership, and athletic talent.

Deadline to sign up for next month's Visitor Industry Charity Walk is May 12.

The six-mile fun walk starts at 7 a.m. from Ala Moana Beach park through Waikiki and back and will be held May 15. It will feature entertainment, food and goodies.

Cost to walk is $35 for adults and $25 for children.
