Maui police said an officer who has been a member of the force for 17 years has been charged with promotion of a dangerous drug.

Ryan Masada, 39, turned himself in at the Wailuku station on Monday on an information charging warrant and was processed and released after posting $10,000 bail.

A police statement said Masada is charged with one count of promoting a dangerous drug and one count of prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.

Masada was assigned to Wailuku Patrol Division before the indictment and has been currently re-assigned to administrative duty within the department.
