Body found at Camp Smith identified as Honolulu man
The city Department of the Medical Examiner on Tuesday identified the body of a man found on the grounds of Camp Smith in Halawa Heights on Sunday as Todd Michael Carson, 49, of a Honolulu address.
The office determine Carson died of heart problems and concluded his death was due to natural causes.
Honolulu Fire Department officials said hunters reported finding Carson's body after their dogs alerted them to the presence of a corpse.
Camp Smith officials said the body was spotted more than 60 feet down an incline in a remote ravine.
The hunters' family members called 911, and the Honolulu police and fire departments responded along with Marine Corps Base Hawai'i Military Police and the Federal Fire Department.
The body was recovered along with a small backpack and some drinking water.
The Navy Criminal Investigative Service is investigating Carson's death.
