CBB: Division II game takes 9 hours

Associated Press

CARY, N.C. — This was one long day at the ballpark.

Kutztown beat Franklin Pierce 2-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II tournament Sunday night in a game that took nine hours — yup, NINE hours — to complete.

The first pitch was thrown at 1:03 p.m. and Brett Wigder finished off the Ravens with an RBI single over the drawn-in infield in the 12th inning at 10:14 p.m. There were three delays — two for bad weather and another for a problem with the lights — lasting over 5 1/2 hours.

Jose Macias threw eight sharp innings for Franklin Pierce (41-16-1), which would be eliminated with a loss in its next game Tuesday afternoon.

Kutztown (42-13), which next plays Tuesday night, scored its first run on a throwing error in the second inning.
