A water main break has closed Lusitana Street between Pauoa Road and Auwaiolimu Street, a Board of Water Supply spokeswoman said this afternoon.

Crews are working to repair a broken 6-inch water main at 1912 Lusitana St. The break was reported around noon.

The Board of Water Supply said a water wagon and spigot on a fire hydrant were placed in the area to provide water to the 15 affected homes.

Special-duty police officers are helping to direct traffic but motorists are advised to use alternate routes. Repair work is expected to continue into the evening.
