Man killed in Tuesday crash was a Wai'anae resident
A man killed Tuesday in the crash of a pickup truck on H-1 Freeway was identified yesterday as David Roberts, 33, of Wai'anae.
Police said Roberts was driving a 1991 Toyota, traveling east at high speed near Kualakai Parkway, when, shortly after 6 p.m., the pickup veered right, struck a grass embankment and overturned.
Roberts was thrown from the truck. His passenger, a 33-year-old Wai'anae woman, was pulled from the vehicle before it caught fire, police said.
Roberts was taken in critical condition to Hawaii Medical Center West, where he was pronounced dead at 6:44 p.m.
The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
Police said Roberts is O'ahu's 30th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 29 at the same time last year.
