SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Giants shortstop Edgar Renteria was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday due to a strained right hamstring.
Renteria, who just came off the DL Saturday from a groin injury, hurt himself while running out a sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning of Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
Before getting hurt, the veteran infielder was batting .326 with one home run and 11 RBIs.

Athletics: Oakland placed outfielder Coco Crisp on the 15-day disabled list yesterday. Crisp signed with the A's in the offseason, but began the season on the disabled list because of a fractured pinky finger. He was activated on Friday and played in two games, going 2 for 6 as the leadoff hitter, before developing a strained muscle in his chest.
Outside the lines: The Justice Department will not be asked to pursue a case against former slugger Sammy Sosa for possibly lying to Congress. A spokeswoman said yesterday the panel has decided not to have Sosa investigated for his remarks at a March 2005 hearing, when he denied using performance-enhancing drugs. Sosa is reported to be on a list of baseball players who allegedly failed drug tests in 2003.
