Rainbows lead Fresno State, 9-2, after 5 1/2 innings

Kolten Wong hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Kevin Macdonald added a three-run double in the fifth to help stake the University of Hawaii baseball team to a 9-2 lead over Fresno State through 5 1/2 innings today in winner's bracket game of the Western Athletic Conference in Mesa, Ariz.

UH scored a run in each of the first five innings, including four in the fifth for a 9-0 lead.

Matt Sisto shut out Fresno State for the first five innings before allowing a two-out, two-run homer to Jordan Ribero.

UH beat Louisiana Tech, 8-7, in 10 innings on Wednesday and New Mexico State, 13-7, Thursday, to advance. Fresno State, the defending WAC champion, drew a first-roound bye and defeated San Jose State, 12-10, Thursday.

The winner of today's UH-Fresno State game advances to Saturday's game at 4:30 p.m. Hawaii time.

The loser plays San Jose State at 1 p.m. Saturday with the loser of this game being eliminated.

If necessary a game will be played Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Nevada ousted No. 2 seed New Mexico State, 5-4. San Jose State then eliminated No. 3 Nevada, 7-6, in 10 innings.
