Hawaiians executive vice president for operations, Robert Zoller, will become president and chief operating officer, taking over many of the day-to-day issues formerly handled by Casey, whose new title is vice chairman and chief executive officer. Casey and Zoller each will report directly to company chairman John Adams.
In making the announcement, Adams cited "unprecedented management challenges" posed by integrating a new fleet of Boeing 717 interisland aircraft that begins in March, searching for new long-range planes to replace the airlines aging DC-10s, developing new routes, and achieving satisfactory profits.
In addition to strategic planning, Casey will oversee human resources, marketing and sales, and public relations.
"This will enable me to focus on the revenue-generating side of the business and trying to figure out strategically where the company will be in three to five years," Casey said. "Its a better division of responsibility."
Zoller, who came to Hawaiian in December 1999 from AirTran, formerly Valujet, oversees issues ranging from flight operations to airplane maintenance. His previous position will not be filled, Casey said. Zoller will add legal and finance duties to his responsibilities.
