First Haneda flights arriving

Two of the first recently authorized international charter flights from Tokyo’s domestic Haneda airport are scheduled to arrive today in Honolulu carrying Japanese government officials, business travelers, tourists and airline representatives.

Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono, who has been pushing for flights from Haneda to Hawaii for two years, will greet Japan Airlines Flight 3074 and All Nippon Airways Flight 1960.

JAL and ANA are two of five airlines allowed to make inaugural flights to select overseas resort destinations today. Otherwise, use of Haneda for international travel will be restricted to two takeoffs and two landings a week.

Hirono says increased access to Haneda could eventually boost Japanese tourism to the Islands by 10 percent.

BancWest Corp. boosts dividend

BancWest Corp., parent company of First Hawaiian Bank, yesterday announced it is increasing the company’s first-quarter dividend to 19 cents a share from 17 cents.

The company’s fourth-quarter profits rose 15.8 percent on strong performance by its Mainland subsidiary and an improving Hawaii economy.

This is the second time the company has increased its dividend since the November 1998 merger of First Hawaiian and Bank of the West.
