Weekend bike rides provide scenic tours

Here is the weekend ride calendar. The Hawaii Bicycling League weekend rides are free and open to the general public.

Tomorrow-Waimanalo Ride, 6:30 a.m. Ride goes around eastern coastline of Oahu. Meet at the Paki parking lot across the street from the Paki tennis courts in Kapiolani Park. Intermediate ride, approximately 40 miles.

Sunday-Windward Coast Ride, 9 a.m. Meet at Kualoa Beach Park, Kaneohe Bay end of parking lot. Rides goes to Laie Point and back. Flat but potentially windy, 15 mph pace. Intermediate ride, 35-50 miles.

Feb. 24-Waimanalo Ride, 6:30 a.m. Ride goes around eastern coastline of Oahu. Meet at the Paki parking lot across the street from the Paki tennis courts in Kapiolani Park. Intermediate ride, approximately 40 miles.

Feb. 25-Blaisdell Park to Ewa Beach Park, 8 a.m. Meet at Blaisdell Park in Pearl City. Will take the bike path out to Waipahu, then Farrington Highway to Fort Weaver Road to Ewa Beach Park and return. Intermediate level, approximately 25 miles, 3-4 hours.

Feb. 25-Mountains & Wetlands Ride, 8 a.m. Meet at the Maunawili Elementary School playground in Olomana. Some very steep hills, 25 miles.

March 3-Makapuu Ride, 6:30 a.m. A great ride around the eastern coastline of Oahu. Meet at the Paki parking lot across the street from the Paki tennis courts in Kapiolani Park. Intermediate ride, approximately 30 miles.

March 4-Beginners Ride, 8 a.m. Meet at the parking lot next to the white church at Kapiolani Community College campus on Monsarrat Avenue. Discussion on bike adjustment, riding technique, bike handling, riding in traffic, braking, etc., will be followed by a 45-minute ride around Kahala. Your bike must be in good mechanical condition. Goal is to help you feel more comfortable, confident and efficient on your bike.

March 10-Waimanalo Beach Park Ride, 6:30 a.m. A great ride around the eastern coastline of Oahu. Meet at the Paki parking lot across the street from the Paki tennis courts in Kapiolani Park. Intermediate ride, approximately 35 miles.

March 10-Intermediate Off-Road Ride, 7:30 a.m. Meet at the corner of Dole & Frank (near the university) for an intermediate, two-hour off-road ride up St. Louis. For information, call Chris at 735-6679.

March 11-North Shore Ride, 9 a.m. Meet at the parking lot across from Sunset Beach. Ride from Sunset Beach to end of road at Kaena Point and return. Flat but potentially windy, 15 mph pace. Intermediate ride.
