Culinary Calendar


TODAY

"The Pearl Fusion" - Pacific Rim Cuisine is the theme of luncheon menus prepared by the Advanced Culinary class at Leeward Community College’s Pearl Dining Room. Lunch is served 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; this menu goes through March 8. 455-0475.

Guest chef dinner at The Pearl Dining Room, 5:30 p.m. at Leeward Community College. Culinary students join forces with chef/owner Alan Wong of Alan Wong’s restaurant and executive chef Randall Ishizu of JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa, to present a four-course dinner paired with wines. $55 per person plus tax and tip. 455-0475.

A Mardi Gras celebration begins today at Sam Choy’s Breakfast, Lunch and Crab with seafood gumbo, fried catfish, jambalaya and crawfish boil among the menu items for lunch and dinner. Executive chef Mike Longworth will also be featuring special foods along with Big Aloha microbrew pitchers for $5 from 5 p.m. on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 27. 545-7979.

TOMORROW

Mardi Gras menus today at Dixie Grill, continuing through Feb. 27. New Orleans BBQ shrimp, soft shell crab and shrimp etouffee and "fat" chicken stuffed with four cheeses, Cajun sausage and Creole spices are among chef David Saccomanno’s offerings. Dixie Grill is open from 11 a.m. daily at 404 Ward Ave., 596-8359; and from 11 a.m. daily except Monday at 99-016 Kamehameha Highway in Aiea, 485-2722.

Next Generation Dinner featuring sous chef Wade Ueoka at Alan Wong’s Restaurant. Won ton pork hash soup, grilled nairage with Dungeness crab cake and beef tenderloin with lemongrass emulsion plus dessert. $65 per person, $80 with wines. 949-2526.

SATURDAY

Free cooking demonstration at noon at Liberty House Ala Moana featuring chef Kyle Yonashiro of Aaron’s and chef Marc Anthony of Sarento’s Top of the "I." $10 per person gets you a seat and samples; otherwise stand and watch for free.

"The 15-Minute Meal Manager," a class with executive chef Elmer Guzman, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sam Choy’s Diamond Head Restaurant. Sponsored by Kapiolani Community College; $25 fee. 734-9211.

Beverly Gannon of Haliimaile General Store, Maui, signs her cookbook of the same name at 7 p.m. at Barnes and Noble, Kahala Mall.

MONDAY

Brewer’s Dinner, 6-9 p.m. at Sam Choy’s Breakfast Lunch and Crab. Dave Campbell plays host to the tasting of Sam Choy’s Big Aloha beers paired with executive chef Mike Longworth’s local-style foods. $39.99 per person. 545-7979.
