Investigation into chopper crash to take two weeks

By Walter Wright
Advertiser Staff Writer

Preliminary investigation into the cause of the crash of two Army Black Hawk helicopters will be completed within the next two weeks, but a final report on the deadly incident could take eight to 10 months, the Army said this morning.

Nothing in the investigation discovered so far has caused the Army to change any of its operational procedures, training or equipment, an Army spokesperson said.

Night flights of the kind in which the choppers were engaged when the Feb. 12 accident happened were resumed within 24 hours of the collision after an initial standdown.

Six soldiers were killed and 11 injured.

One helicopter from the collision was removed yesterday from the Army’s Kahuku training area where they crashed.

The second helicopter, which carried all six of the soliders who died, is to be moved this afternoon to a hangar at Wheeler Army Air Field.
