Three involved in melee treated for wounds

Three men drove themselves to area hospitals yesterday morning after being wounded in a brawl in a parking lot near Ala Moana Center.

Two of the men were in guarded condition with stab wounds last night at the Queen’s Medical Center, police said. One man was treated for stab wounds and released from another hospital. All three men were in their early 20s.

Detective Dave Suta of the criminal investigation division said no arrests had been made in the incident, and no suspects had been identified.

The suspects were taken to the hospitals in private cars shortly after 3 a.m. The police reports were made from there. The stabbing victims said that 30 people were involved in the fight.

When police went to the parking lot near 1234 Kona St. they found no additional victims or witnesses. An investigation is continuing.

Suspicious fire Nanakuli’s second

Fire officials are warning Nanakuli residents of a possible serial arsonist after responding to a second intentionally set house fire in the community in the past two days.

Six fire units were called to 87-1634 Farrington Highway, Unit H, at 3:11 a.m. after neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the structure. The fire was brought under control within minutes, but not before the residence burned to the ground.

Fire investigators said a flammable liquid was used to ignite the fire in the back of the unit, as well as in the carport area, according to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo. The case has been referred to police investigators.

No one was home at the time of the blaze. Neighbors told authorities that the tenants of the unit were recently evicted, but their belongings were still in the house.

Damage is estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. Two adjacent homes at 123 and 125 Laiku St. suffered $2,000 and $4,000, respectively, in exterior damage from the fire.

The previous arson fire occurred Thursday in the same complex at 87-1634 Farrington Highway, Unit E.

Area residents who witnessed any suspicious activity should call the Honolulu Police Department’s Crime Stoppers at 529-3939.

Waianae man sought in assault

Police are looking for a 38-year-old man suspected of kidnapping and beating his girlfriend, as well as attempting twice to hit her with his car.

John Lee, who has 25 previous arrests, is being sought for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their Waianae apartment around 3 a.m. The victim ran outside to let the situation cool off, when the man reportedly drove his Nissan Sentra onto the sidewalk and nearly hit her. He then allegedly dragged her inside the car by her hair and assaulted her again, police said.

After taking the woman to her mother’s residence in Makaha, the suspect let the victim out of the car, but rammed a tile wall next to the woman, police said. The victim ran inside to call police.

The woman reported pain to the head area and suffered a bruise to her upper left arm, police said.
