Man, teen held in attack at Pearlridge

Advertiser Staff

Police have arrested a man, 23, and boy, 15, in an attack early yesterday morning that critically injured a motorist near the Sears store at Pearlridge Shopping Center.

The 23-year-old motorist who was the victim of the 12:17 a.m. attack at 98-180 Kamehameha Highway was beaten with a baseball bat and cut on the right arm, police said. He was in critical condition at the Queen’s Medical Center.

Police said the motorist was stopped at a bus stop in front of Sears when he was confronted by a man brandishing a knife. The man cut the victim’s right arm and dragged him out of the car, police said. He was beating the victim when the teenage suspect appeared with a bat and chased off a passenger in the car. The teenager struck the motorist with the bat, police said.

The man then took the bat and smashed the car’s windshield.

A patrol officer in the area arrested the two suspects. They were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful entry into a vehicle and third-degree criminal property damage. Charges were pending.
