Show Biz
Director has cause for triple celebration

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

HAPPY TALK: Jack and Maydelle Cione marked their 45th anniversary Sunday at The Banyans at Pearl Harbor, where the show he directed, "Mardi Gras Follies," also logged a milestone - its 15th with Cione as artistic director. The evening also recognized Cione’s 20th anniversary of his "retirement," which, in his case, means when he got out of the club biz. Clearly, periodic shows such as the "Follies" keep his creative juices flowing and regular tap-dancing classes (he teaches, not takes) further keeps Cione young and trim ...

The revue, an eye-filling extravaganza with lavish costumes, includes a high-energy cast. Among the familiar faces: Benny and Faith Agbayani, dance devotees who are the parents of the junior Benny Agbayani of the New York Mets. The young Benny, by the way, is expecting his first child in July ...

RANDOM NOTES: Robert Cazimero opens a solo piano gig (playing Mondays and Tuesdays, till further notice) at Chai’s Island Bistro at Aloha Tower Marketplace. The entertainment community, like the restaurant fraternity, has been stunned by the Chai Chaowasaree immigration case, but the beat goes on at the club. Chai earlier bought a new piano for Cazimero, who is replacing the Makaha Sons (see below) and Glenn Medeiros, who wound up his Tuesday gig last week. Robert still performs Wednesdays with brother Roland as The Brothers Cazimero at Chai’s ...

John Koko of the Makaha Sons is out of the hospital and recuperating from surgery at home, grateful for prayers, good wishes and flowers from fans and friends and truly thankful for the performance of the Kaiser Hospital staff. Now it’s a matter of healing up before joining the nightlife circuit again ...

Actor Robert Urich ("Spencer for Hire," "Vega$," "Love Boat 2" ) has discovered the new Ruth’s Chris Steak House in The Shops at Wailea. Brought his family in for an ocean-view meal. Ditto Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, who dined at Ruth’s Chris with family and friends ...

No end to the sightings of actor-comedian Rob Schneider; he had folks laughing and autograph-seeking at Duke’s Canoe Club a few nights back ...

Judging tomorrow night’s "Tiny Tadani & Sansei Ultimate Karaoke Contest" at Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar at Restaurant Row will be Kahua members Nakana Wong, Gavan Miyashita and Kevin Morikone ...

Condolences to actor Jason Scott Lee and his family; his dad, Robert W.H. Lee, died Feb. 19, and services and burial were held Monday at the Hawaii State Veterans Memorial Park in Kaneohe ...

LOVE IS IN THE AIR: Hoa Caluya, of Nails by Hoa at the Hanalei Salon, is sporting a sparkler she received from Jesse Morta, general manager of Compadres restaurant. They met during the holidays and have set a late June wedding ...

And James McDonald, chef of Pacific O and Io in Lahaina, introduced his fiancee Kerri O’Connell at the Hale Aina Awards Sunday night at Neiman Marcus. McDonald proposed just minutes before the event, at sunset on the veranda of their Sheraton Moana Surfrider Hotel room, overlooking the ocean. O’Connell is manager of Tropica at the Westin Maui, but as the bride-to-be said, "No date yet - it just happened" ...

And that’s Show Biz ...
