Tip-Off
John Loring of Tiffany to speak at Hawai'i Theatre

By Paula Rath
Advertiser Island Style Writer

A Hawaii public appearance of John Loring, Tiffany’s design director and the company’s voice of good taste, is set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16.

It may seem an odd event for the Hawaii Theatre stage: no dancing or musicians, just one man speaking, with slides.

But this particular man has planned opulent, sophisticated fetes for Irving Berlin’s 100th birthday and Ronald Reagan’s final state dinner as president and literally wrote the book on "Tiffany Taste."

Since 1837, Tiffany has set the pace for American style in jewelry, entertaining and table settings.

Loring’s talk will chronicle Tiffany’s evolution from a purveyor of stationary and fancy goods into one of the world’s pre-eminent jewelers.

Tickets: Victoria Okada, 791-1302. Cost: $125. The price includes a champagne reception, five-course dinner and an autographed copy of one of Loring’s books.
