Humboldt State edges BYU-Hawaii, 91-90

Austin Nichols scored on a putback as time expired lifting Humboldt State to a 91-90 victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference men’s basketball game at Cannon Activities Center in Laie.

Nichols rebounded an Issac Gildea miss and banked in the game-winner.

With 17 seconds to go, BYUH’s Kerry Hendrickson rebounded a Dean Daley miss and put up a jumper that also missed. Gildea got the rebound and the Lumberjacks ran down the clock, going for the last shot.

BYUH is 6-4 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest. Humboldt State, located in Arcata, Calif., is 10-1 and 1-1.

Fred Hooks of Humboldt led all scorers with 30 points. Hendrickson scored 22 points

Hawaii Pacific 88, Western Oregon 71: Nash Subotic scored 18 points and Nick Spajic added 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds to lift the Sea Warriors to their fifth consecutive victory at Blaisdell Arena.

Hawaii Pacific is 6-4, 1-0 in the PacWest. Western Oregon is 3-8 and 1-1.

HPU took a 43-32 halftime lead, but Western Oregon closed to 53-50 with 12:41 remaining on a basket by Robert Day. It would be the closest the Runnin’ Wolves would get.

Day scored 18 points for Western Oregon.

Hawaii Pacific’s game with Humboldt State tomorrow has been changed from Mid-Pacific gym to Blaisdell Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Seattle Pacific 90, UH-Hilo 76: Nick Johnson scored 21 points and John Hubbard added 20, powering the Falcons (8-2, 1-1) to a PacWest victory over the Vulcans (5-5, 0-1) at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

Eric Sandrin contributed 16 points and 13 rebounds for Seattle Pacific, which led 46-44 at halftime.

Alan Thomas scored 25 points for UHH.

Western Washington 81, Chaminade 77: Mike Palm scored 21 points to lead the Vikings to a Pacific West Conference victory at McCabe Gym, despite a 25-point performance by the Silverswords’ CJ Cowgill.

Western Washington (10-1, 2-0 PacWest), ranked No. 2 in the NCAA II West Region, won its eighth consecutive game. Chaminade is 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
