KIHEI, Maui — Two teenage sisters suffered burns in a cottage fire yesterday morning in Kihei.

The girls, aged 18 and 13, were in stable condition last night at Maui Memorial Medical Center with first- and second-degree burns.

The cause of the 11 a.m. fire at 176 Namauu Place remains under investigation, according to Maui Fire Department Assistant Chief Richard Fernandez.

Firefighters from Kihei and Wailuku had the blaze under control within a half-hour and extinguished by noon.

Fernandez said two rental cottages on the property were damaged. One sustained a total of $17,500 damage and the other, $2,500 damage.
