Bicycling League calendar includes treks to Waimanalo, Waipahu

Here is the weekend ride calendar. The Hawaii Bicycling League weekend rides are free and open to the general public.

Saturday: Kapiolani Park to Makapuu Ride, 7 a.m. Join Chet the Jet on a 30-mile ride to Makapuu and back. Start will be at Kapiolani Park parking lot across the street from Paki tennis court parking lot. Intermediate level.

Sunday: Tandem Ride, 7:30 a.m. Meet at Keehi Lagoon Park restroom parking lot (Diamond Head end of park). Enter park from Lagoon Drive at Aolele Street. Meet in parking lot and proceed out the bike path along Nimitz, and the Pearl Harbor bike path, past Ted Makalena Golf Course, check out new Waipio Soccer Park, and out to end of paved bike path ending at Waipahu Depot Street. Jan. 20: Kapiolani Park to Waimanalo, 7 a.m. Join Chet the Jet on a 40-mile ride to Waimanalo and back. Start will be at Kapiolani Park parking lot across the street from Paki tennis court parking lot. Intermediate level.

Jan. 27: Kapiolani Park to Waimanalo, 7 a.m. Join Chet the Jet on a 40-mile ride to Waimanalo and back. Start will be at Kapiolani Park parking lot across the street from Paki tennis court parking lot. Intermediate level.

Jan. 28: Pali Pizza Ride, 7:30 a.m. Meet Frank Smith at Island Triathlon & Bike at 569 Kapahulu Ave. Challenging 40-mile loop over the Nuuanu Pali, through tunnels and around Makapuu. Finish at Harpo’s Pizza for food and drink. For information, call Frank Smith at 737-RIDE (7433), evenings at 747-1345.

Feb. 4: Beginners’ Ride, 8 a.m., Meet at Kapiolani Community College campus on Monsarrat Avenue in the parking lot next to white church. Discussion on bike adjustment, riding technique, bike handling, riding in traffic, braking, etc., followed by 45-minute ride around Kahala. Goal is to help you be more comfortable, confident and efficient on your bike.
