List of state schools on 'honor roll'

By Alice Keesing
Advertiser Education Writer

More than half of Hawaii’s public elementary schools scored at or above average on the 2000 Stanford Achievement Test.

And while secondary schools did not fare as well, they also posted gains over 1999 results.

The Stanford test gives state educators a measure of how Hawaii students are performing compared to their Mainland counterparts. The test is designed so that 54 percent of all test-takers nationwide post "average" scores, 23 percent score in the "low" range and 23 percent score in the "high" range.

Department officials said test scores are just one measure of a school’s success.
