What's open and closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day


Here’s a rundown of what will be open or closed Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

GOVERNMENT

Federal, state and county offices: Closed.

SCHOOLS

Public schools: Closed.

UH: Closed.

PUBLIC SERVICES

Libraries: Closed. (Kailua-Kona, Kihei, Lanai, Princeville and Waialua, normally closed Mondays, will observe the holiday on Tuesday.)

TheBus: Saturday schedule. Call 848-5555.

On-street parking: Free except for meters on Kalakaua Avenue, along Kapiolani Park. Permitted in tow-away zones marked for holidays.

Traffic: No coning.

Trash: Regular rubbish and recylable pickup.

Landfills (Kalaheo & Waimanalo Gulch): open.

Open Markets: Not in operation.

Municipal golf courses: Open.

City recreation centers: Open.

Mail: Express mail delivery, mailbox pickups, no regular delivery.

Handi-Van: Holiday hours, pickups 6 a.m. to midnight with reservations only. Call 456-5555 (24-hour notice).

Humane Society: Open.

Blood bank: Open.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Banks: Closed; in-store branches open.

Savings & loans: Closed.

Stock market: Closed.

MUSEUMS/INSTITUTIONS

Academy of Arts: Closed.

Arizona Memorial: Open.

Bishop Museum: Open.

Botanical Gardens: Open.

Contemporary Museum: Closed.

Hawaii Maritime Center: Open.

Honolulu Zoo: Open.

Iolani Palace: Closed.

Lyon Arboretum (UH): Closed.

Mission Houses Museum: Closed.

National Memorial Cemetery (Punchbowl): Open.

Pacific Aerospace Museum (Honolulu International Airport): Open.

Polynesian Cultural Center: Open.

Queen Emma Summer Palace: Open.

Sea Life Park: Open.

Senator Fong’s Plantation & Gardens: Open.

Waikiki Aquarium: Open.

Waimea Falls Park: Open.

Waipahu Cultural Garden Park (and Hawaii’s Plantation Village): Closed.
