Coke, Disney plan joint marketing

Bloomberg News Service

BURBANK, Calif. — Coca-Cola Co., the world’s No. 1 soft-drink maker, said it will market juices and other drinks for children with Walt Disney Co. Packages will feature Disney characters.

Terms were not disclosed. The companies said the drinks will be made by Coca-Cola’s Minute Maid unit and include juices, milk- and water-based drinks, punches and smoothies.

The first products, Mickey’s X-treme Coolers and Pooh’s 100 Acre Wood Apple-Berry, will be introduced this year. Atlanta-based Coca-Cola said it expects to sell the products internationally next year. Disney serves Coca-Cola products at its theme parks.

The agreement comes a week after Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble Co. said they’re forming a joint venture to sell products as they try to revive sluggish sales of juices and snacks.

"If you look at PepsiCo Inc.’s Tropicana brand, they’ve managed to double operating income in the last three years," Bear, Stearns & Co. analyst Carlos Laboy said. Laboy rates Coca-Cola shares "neutral."
