Testimonial dinner set for retired UH dean

By Vicki Viotti
Advertiser Staff Writer

The University of Hawaii at Manoa will mark the 70th anniversary of its College of Education with a testimonial dinner for retired college dean Hubert Everly, set for 7 p.m. March 16 at the Sheraton Waik?k? Hotel Kauai and Maui ballrooms.

Everly served as dean from 1956 to 1979. His achievements include attracting educators from major universities and staffing summer sessions with nationally recognized scholars.

In Everly’s honor, the college has established a professorial chair position and plans to endow it with a $1 million fund to be called the Hubert V. Everly Endowed Chair in Education. About $100,000 has been raised toward that goal.

Gifts to the endowment are being accepted by the University of Hawaii Foundation, P.O. Box 11270, Honolulu, HI 96822.

Tickets to "Thanks a Million, Hu!," a testimonial celebrating Everly’s 23 years at the college helm, are on sale for $65.

The testimonial will begin with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. For reservations and information about rates for tables, call the Hawaii Education Association, 949-6657.
