Perfect tube ride in Pipeline Pro
Isaac Kaneshiro scored a perfect 10, while defending Hawaiian Island Creation Pipeline Pro champion Carlos Cabrero was knocked out of the competition yesterday in 8-to 10-foot surf.
In the second heat of round 5, Kaneshiro, of Ewa Beach, pulled into a huge tube and disappeared for five seconds before reappearing to earn a perfect 10 with the longest ride of the day.
Three heats later, Hawaiis Jamie OBrien, 17, pulled into another sizeable tube that seem to get smaller and smaller. But O'Brien punched through to earn a 9.5 out of a possible 10.
Cabrero, from Puerto Rico, dislocated his shoulder in a wipeout during yesterdays fourth round. He will miss the rest of the meet.
With the surf getting better, the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals could be held today.
