Ewa beating suspect arrested

Police said they have arrested a man who beat his girlfriend and her two baby boys repeatedly for two days and locked them in a room in an Ewa Beach home earlier this month.

The man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, second-degree assault and abuse of a household member.

Police said the man beat his girlfriend and her sons, both 2 years old, after the boys made a mess at a Kilaha Street home on Thursday. When the woman tried to protect her sons, the man punched her in the ribs, head and face, and locked the three in a room.

The woman escaped on Saturday and called police who later identified and arrested the man.

Maui man taken into custody

Police have arrested a 24-year-old Maui man after he allegedly threatened to kill his 22-year-old girlfriend and broke her car window during a domestic dispute last week in Waikiki.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of terroristic threatening charges and third-degree criminal property damage. Police said the man called his girlfriend several times from Maui between Friday and Saturday and allegedly threatened to assault her if she broke up with him.

On Saturday, he flew from Maui and allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in her Kalakaua Avenue bedroom and also punched and shattered her car window. The woman’s roommate reported the abuse and the man was later arrested.

Waianae fire called arson

The Waianae fire yesterday that caused an estimated $19,000 in damages was intentionally set, a fire official said.

No one was injured during the fire that burned one shed and portions of another shed and an abandoned house at 85-909 Midway St., said Capt. Richard Soo, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

Eight fire companies, including a hazardous materials truck, responded to the 4:10 a.m. call and had the blaze under control at 4:27 a.m., Soo said.

The hazardous materials truck was called because of concerns about possible fuel and paint in the sheds. The fire caused an estimated $13,000 in damages to the house and $6,000 to the sheds, Soo said.
