Roadwork problem snarls H-1 traffic

By Brandon Masuoka
Advertiser Staff Writer

A breakdown in road construction equipment on the H-1 Freeway townbound snarled traffic this morning for more than an hour and delayed the opening of the Zipper lane near Waikele.

Equipment used to re-pave the H-1 Freeway broke down near the Managers Drive Overpass and delayed opening of that portion of the Zipper lane for about 1 1/2 hours, until 6:30 a.m., said Department of Transportation spokeswoman Marilyn Kali.

The lane could not be opened until the equipment was fixed and the contractor finished paving the roadway, Kali said.

Only the Managers Drive area was affected, she said. Other areas of the Zipper lane were open, including Waikele and the H-2 Freeway.
