Bicyclist hurt in 'Ewa hit-and-run

Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old bicyclist was critically injured today in a hit-and-run collision in ‘Ewa, police said.

He was cycling toward ‘Ewa Beach on the right shoulder lane of Fort Weaver Road about 12:45 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a van, police said. The van fled the scene, police said.

The collision happened near the intersection of Old Fort Weaver Road, less than a mile from the St. Francis Medical Center-West, police said.

They were looking for a blue van possibly similar to a Ford Aerostar. The van sustained front end damage, police said.

The cyclist was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with lower body and major head injuries, police said. They said speed and alcohol are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
