No signs of suicide in familiy crash

There’s no proof that a 30-year-old woman who slammed her speeding car into a tree Sunday, killing herself and two young boys, did so intentionally, police said today.

A vehicular homicide team investigating the high-speed crash at the intersection of Koapaka and Ohohia streets did not find brake marks, indicating the 2001 Buick Century sedan went straight into the tree.

The investigation has focused on reports the woman may have been despondent about a domestic incident involving her husband.

The medical examiner’s office confirmed the identities of the dead boys as 2-month-old Pulou Levu and Tapelu Levu Jr., 3. The woman’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

Another woman, 19, and a boy, 2, who were passengers in the car remained in critical condition at the Queen’s Medical Center today.

If the investigation determines that the woman intended to kill herself, the case will be reclassified as a murder-suicide, police said.
