Hawaii Theatre show sold out
HANA HOU: Roland Cazimero played tuba while Robert Cazimero strummed guitar and sang on "Pane Mai." Roberts Gentlemen From Na Kamalei enacted a mesmerizing sit-down hula on guest artist Sean Naauaos "Pua Lililehua" vocal, a tribute to the late Maiki Aiu Lake. Tehani Kealamailani Gonzado, the reigning Miss Aloha Hula, gracefully interpreted "Kuuipo I ka Hee Pueone," while The Caz sang.
These were but a handful of precious moments in The Cazs sold-out Hana Hou concert Friday night at the Hawaii Theatre. It played like a May Day concert, with plenty of riches for the eye (a gorgeous set of tropical trees and blooms) and the ears (a vast repertoire, including piano selections and kahiko offerings from Robert), but felt like Christmas with so many "presents" to share. With dancer Leinaala Heine Kalama also getting ample stage time, in both serious and comedic hula, the evening was a flashback to those times when Robert and Roland generously threw in everything but the kitchen sink to create magic. Simply, this was a rewarding revisit with true Hawaiian treasures. A spectacle of this magnitude deserves a weeks run at the Hawaii, promoted as bona fide theater . . .
WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Joe Moores "Moonglow" was the third-most-requested flick over the weekend on Oceanic Cables Video on Demand, following Jim Carreys "Me, Myself & Irene" and John Travoltas "Battlefield Earth," according to Allan Akamine, Oceanics sales director. "I dont mind following Carrey and Travolta," said the KHON Fox 2 news anchor, whose film topped more recognizable titles such as "Gladiator," "Gone in 60 Seconds," "The Cell," "The X-Men" and "Tarzan" . . .
Adam Sandler dined at Sam Choys Kapahulu, quite a polite and adorable guy, unlike the raucous, obnoxious film characters he often plays in films . . .
And out Kailua way, "La Femme Nikitas" Peta Wilson enjoyed the food at Kevins Two Boots . . .
HERE N THERE: Pals of Nohelani Cypriano helped her celebrate her birthday Sunday at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental's Plumeria Cafe, and her Local Divas teammates showed up to do an impromptu show. Artist George Sumner also was there, signing a print for the birthday gal . . .
Downtown Julie Brown, the VJ and host of MTVs "Club MTV," had checked out Cyprianos show aboard the Navatek . . .
Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of the pioneer environmentalist Jacques-Yves Costeau, gave a guided underwater tour aboard the Atlantis submarine off Maui and is a guest at the Whalefest, continuing through today in Lahaina . . .
Charlotte Kandel, former Warner Bros. worldwide publicity honcho, and her husband, Stanley, have been visiting. They were headed for the Waikele Outlet Mall, but having seen an unidentified restaurant mannequin with an "Eat Here" sign in The Advertiser last week, they were curious to seek it out, and found it at Dixie Grill Aiea, where they enjoyed barbecue ribs . . .
John Noland has not left KGU Radio, as a trimmed line in a Show Biz column last week might have implied. He continues his stint on Oceanic Cable 16 and remains in KGUs morning show, hosted by Mike Buck, with Peg Stewart handling news . . .
And thats Show Biz . . .
