MIGHT-SEE: "Some of My Best Friends," 7 p.m., CBS: Sure, this show has its flaws: Two stereotypes - young Italian males, young gay males - collide; it provides a situation-comedy pacing that seems way too familiar. One other thing should be noted: At its best moments, the show can pack a comedy punch. It has sharp lines delivered by a solid cast. Frankie (Danny Nucci) is a decent chap who adjusts to the fact that his roommate, Warren (Jason Bateman) and neighbor, Vern (Alec Mapa) are gay. He doubts, however, that his friends will understand. Now he invites them over - on a night when Warren and Vern are expected to be gone. All of this is stretched, merging broad farce with modern society.
MIGHT-SEE: TV Guide Awards, 7 p.m., Fox: David E. Kelley, the gifted producer-writer, gets a special award tonight. Unfortunately, none of his shows fared well. "The Practice" was snubbed for favorite drama with the nominations going to "The West Wing," "ER," "Law and Order" and Judging Amy." Kelleys "Boston Public" was snubbed for favorite new show with nominations going to "Ed," "Bette," "CSI" and "The District." His "Ally McBeal," which should be considered a drama, is up for favorite comedy, against "Frasier," "Friends" and "Everybody Loves Raymond." |
