Student arrested in teacher threats

Police have arrested a student at Redemption Academy in Kailua on allegations that he threatened to shoot two teachers Tuesday.

The boy was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, police said.

Female inmate charged in beating of elderly man

Police have charged a 47-year-old woman, who was being held at the Women’s Community Correctional Center for an unrelated offense, with the beating of an 86-year-old man in January.

Police charged Deborah Retherford with second-degree assault and set her bail at $20,000. Police accused Retherford of beating the elderly man and causing him substantial injuries at 1175 Fort Street Mall on Jan. 13. Police found Retherford at the women’s prison after getting an arrest warrant.

Man arrested in stolen car

Police arrested a man yesterday near Waimea after he was found inside a stolen car that contained drug paraphernalia and suspected drugs.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of auto theft, drug offenses, detaining stolen property and other offenses.

A Wahiawa Crime Reduction Unit officer responded to the scene at 61-031 Kamehameha Highway at 3:12 p.m. yesterday and found a stolen car with its engine running in a tow-away zone fronting Waimea Bay Beach Park.

When the officer told the driver to turn off the engine, the driver pulled two wires apart to stop the car. Police said a glass pipe with residue and a clear plastic packet containing a crystal like substance were seen in the car. A suitcase, tools, jewelry, coins and clothes were in the backseat, police said.

Firearms arrest in Kapolei

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of several firearms violations last night. Police said he shot a rifle from a truck parked on Aukahi Place in Kapolei.

No one was injured, but police closed off about three blocks of Aukahi Street for a half an hour after receiving a 4:52 p.m. call from neighbors who said they heard what sounded like two gunshots. A man was reported sitting in a camouflage-painted truck holding a rifle, then entering a nearby house, Sgt. Steven Kitsu said.

One of two men who came out of the house directed police to a Remington .308-caliber rifle, police said, and he was arrested.

The rifle had been stolen in a robbery three years ago, he said.
