Presentations on the Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organizations 2025 transportation plan will be Tuesday at the Neal Blaisdell Center, Hawaii Suites 1 & 7.
An open house format detailing the projects will run from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Presentations are scheduled for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
OMPOs 13-member Policy Committee will determine a final list of projects for the 2025 plan April 6.
Major transportation projects need to make the OMPO plan to be eligible for federal money, said OMPO executive director Gordon Lum.
"The Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration looks at this list before any funding is approved for these projects," Lum said. "Hawaii will have $3.5 billion in available funding over the next 25 years, and the committee has to decide among $7.5 billion worth of transportation projects."
Some of the more notable projects that made the initial cut includes:
The citys proposed $1 billion Bus Rapid Transit system.
A $9.3 million emergency access road for the Waianae Coast.
A $38.6 million project to widen Fort Weaver Road from Farrington Highway to Geiger Road.
A $8.5 million Makakilo Drive extension that would be a second access to the Makakilo community and an entrance to the planned University of Hawaii-West Oahu campus.
$18.4 million in H-2 Freeway Waipio Interchange improvements and a $13 million "Central Mauka Road" to deal with impending development in Central Oahu.
A $20 million rockfall protection project along Kalani-anaole Highway at Makapuu.
