WAILUKU, Maui — A 44-year-old Lahaina man died yesterday from injuries suffered when the pickup truck he was riding in struck a utility pole on Pulehu Road.

Bradfred Wah Choy Chung was pronounced dead at Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said.

Chung, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the 1984 Toyota pickup truck when it struck the utility pole, climbed an embankment and rolled over. The crash was reported to police at 7:53 p.m.

The driver, a 19-year-old Lahaina man, was not seriously injured.

The traffic fatality is Maui’s sixth of the year.
