SIMON BASIL DUKE CARDEW, a former public relations executive for Sheraton Hotels in Hawai'i and later vice president for public affairs for Sheraton in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, died Tuesday in London. He was 63. See story.

Longtime public school teacher, former principal of Pahala Elementary School, former director of secondary education for the Territory of Hawai'i, former deputy district superintendent of O'ahu, supervising principal for Honolulu district elementary schools and deputy district superintendent for all Honolulu district schools; associate professor of education at the University of Hawai'i and director of the Teacher Corps program.
