Right-hander Michael Valdez fired a one-hitter to lead Fort Worth, Texas, over Waipi'o, 8-0, today in the Little League Majors (ages 11-12) World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.

Waipi'o (1-1) will continue pool play at 2 p.m. (HST) tomorrow against Webb City, Mo. Fort Worth improved to 2-0 in the pool. The top two teams from each of the four pools advance to the single-elimination round, which starts Wednesday.

Waipi'o tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Travis Jones reached first on an error and took second on a wild pitch before Tony Fernandez was hit by a pitch. Cory Yuh walked to load the bases, but Sean Clark grounded into a game-ending double play.

Valdez allowed three walks and struck out three in six innings. It was the second one-hitter of the Series for Fort Worth. Walker Kelly, who was 3 for 3 with three RBI, pitched a one-hitter against Webb City earlier.

Valdez also aided his own cause by batting 3-3 in Fort Worth's 13-hit attack.
