ADVERTISER CHRISTMAS FUND
Boy's wish for desk fulfilled; also gets a new computer

 •  Foundation will match your donation twofold
 •  Fry pan, iron would improve family's life at shelter

Sunday's Advertiser Christmas Fund story about "T.H.," an 8-year-old boy seeking a school desk, generated donations of 12 desks and three computers, according to Jessica Ramos of Helping Hands Hawai'i.

Mail checks payable to The Advertiser Christmas Fund to:

    Helping Hands Hawai'i
    P.O. Box 17328
    Honolulu, HI 96817

• Our anonymous Santa will match the first $25 of all contributions.

Donations to the Christmas Fund can also be dropped off at First Hawaiian Bank branches statewide. To donate canned food or household goods, call the Helping Hands Hawai'i Community Clearinghouse at 536-7234.

Although T.H. did not request it, he will also be given a new computer and a $50 gift certificate from a donor.

The extra desks and computers will go to other students in need, Ramos said.

The following is an update on others featured in Advertiser Christmas Fund stories last week:

  • Dec. 2: "M.U." accepted offers from a construction company to modify her bathroom and build a wheelchair ramp to accommodate her disabled mother. Also, a carpenter has volunteered his services.
  • Dec. 3: "L.A." received donations of clothes, a sofa bed and coffee table from several donors. An extra sofa donation will be passed on to another needy family.
  • Dec. 4: "C.P." will receive a donated freezer.
  • Dec. 5: "R.P." will get school supplies and a basketball.
  • Dec. 6: "Y.R." will receive one of five dining tables with chairs that have been donated. Extra tables will go to other needy families with similar requests.
