OLIVER STATLER, one of Hawai'i's most prominent authors and an internationally known student of wood block prints, Shingon Buddhism and other things Japanese, died Thursday at The Queen's Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 87. See story.

ROBERT ROTZ, a longtime Honolulu sign maker and ad man who was mentored as a young man by Duke Kahanamoku, died Feb. 11 at Straub Hospital. He was 83. See story.

HUNG WAI CHING, retired real estate developer, prominent Chinese community leader, former YMCA administrator and former University of Hawai'i regent, died Feb. 9 at St. Francis Medical Center Liliha. Ching, who lived in Honolulu, was 96 years old. See story.

CHARLOTTE LOUISE AHRENS, 72, of Honolulu, died Feb. 14, 2002. Retired University of Hawai'i at Manoa library technician and part-time Mission Houses Museum interpreter.
