The late Rep. Patsy Mink's offices in Honolulu and Washington, D.C., will remain open under the supervision of the House clerk, his office said today.

Her staff will remain on the House payroll under the supervision of House Clerk Jeff Trandahl to assist constituents, handle government business and provide status on pending legislation, Trandahl's office said in a statement.

Mink's Hawai'i district office and her office in Washington are open on a daily basis to conduct congressional business, according to Trandahl.

Under House rules, the clerk manages the offices when a member dies, resigns, or is expelled.

Mink died Saturday after a monthlong hospitalization for viral pneumonia. She was 74.

The authority does not include voting representation, and continues until a successor is elected to fill the vacant seat.

Mink's death means there are now three vacant seats in the House, including two in Ohio.

Hers is the tenth vacancy to occur during the 107th Congress. Six vacancies occurred in the 106th Congress due to resignation or death, including a vacancy that was filled in the 107th Congress, Trandahl's office said.
