Fourth ace put in perspective
Toby Swanson July 16
Ted Makalena
Hole No. 4, 140 yards, 5-iron
The fourth hole at Ted Makalena is special to me. Earlier this year, one of my playing partners was a blind man and his "seeing-eye" caddie.
The blind man used a wood into the wind and came within 5 feet of the hole. His caddie used the same club and recorded an ace.
On July 16, the tradewinds were howling, so I hit a stinger 5-iron on the same hole.
The morning sun caused me to lose the ball, but my partners assured me it went in.
It was my fourth hole in one, but the first time I missed seeing it drop into the cup.
It also gave me a bit of an understanding of what the blind golfer goes through when his partners say, "Good shot."
