The Big Island International Marathon is set for March 21 at Pepe'ekeo.

In addition to the 26.2-mile marathon, there also will be a 10.8-mile run and a 3.1-mile run/walk.

The marathon will start at 6 a.m.

The cost for the marathon is $50, the 10.8-mile run is $30 and the run/walk is $20. Entry fees will increase March 1.

Race applications are available at the Hilo Bike Hub, K-Big radio station and at the Hawai'i Naniloa Hotel. Registration also is available at www.signmeupsports.com.

Umpire clinic: Representatives from Cooperstown Dreams Park will be conducting an umpire clinic on the basic mechanics of umpiring on Feb. 22 at Central O'ahu Regional Park's field No. 3.

The first clinic will be from 8 a.m. to noon and the second will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $10. For information, call 735-6154.

Dance competition: The Aloha International Spirit Championship, a dance and cheerleading competition, will be held tomorrow at the Waikiki Shell.

Individual competitions will start at 10 a.m., followed by the cheerleading competition. The awards ceremony will be held around 5 p.m.

Cheerleading competition will be held in all different classifications (youth/recreational, high school, intermediate and all-star) and grade levels.

Water polo: University of Hawai'i water polo coach Michel Roy will be holding a junior program for kids ages 6 through 12 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex at UH.

The sessions will be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $80 per month; $70 per month per child if there are two or more from the same family. Call 988-9796 for information.
