A 211.6-pound ahi broke the record at the Ahi Fever fishing tournament held June 19 and 20 at Wai'anae Boat Harbor.

The ahi caught by the boat Que-Largo, earned a prize of $5,000 and broke the previous record of 203. The captain of the boat was Gary Largo of Waipahu.

Over $58,000 in prize money was given away at the event and another $6,000 in merchandise. Prizes were awarded for ahi, marlin, mahimahi, ono and otaru caught on both days of the tournament.

Traffic flow during the tournament was lighter since no ho'olaule'a was held in conjunction with it like previous years.

Held for the seventh time, Ahi Fever is the largest fishing tournament in the state. This year, 200 boats participated in the tournament with more trailer boats than before. The previous record for tournament participation was 260 boats.
