Hawai'i shines at taekwondo event

Hawai'i competitors captured 30 medals, including seven golds, at the 2004 U.S. Junior Olympic Taekwondo Championships held June 30 to July 6 at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

The O'ahu Taekwondo Center led the Hawai'i contingent with five gold medals from Connie Young (poomse), Chris Young (sparring), Shayne Tsukenjo (sparring), Jason Sam (poomse) and Jaime Cajimat (sparring). Smith Taekwondo won two gold medals from Leila Tseu (forms) and Lia Cornair (sparring).

Connie Young, Sarah Tsukenjo, Jensen Ishida and Cornair were the only Hawai'i competitors to capture two medals each.
