Exotic, gleaming machines

Shift into high gear this weekend at the International Exotic Car and Cycle Show at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The event features all kinds of goodies on wheels including the Ferrari Multi-Million Dollar Supercar Exhibit, new and late exotic models, an exotic car heritage exhibit, new and custom bike exhibit, Coast Guard Homeland Security exhibit, Big Boy Toys exhibit and exotic cycles. Showtimes are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 general, $4 seniors and military, $2 children 7-12 and free for those 6 and younger. www.exoticcarshow.com.


They came from space

Blast off into space with the lovable critters of "Sesame Street Live" when the popular live-action show goes "Out of This World!" A spaceship lands on Sesame Street, and it's up to the gang to help two homesick Martians rocket back into space. This adventure launches at 7 p.m. Thursday, with all seats $11. The show continues at the Blaisdell Concert Hall at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 18, 24-25 and 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. June 19-20 and 26-27. Tickets are $11, $15 and $19. (877) 750-4400.


It's party time for teens

Apartment 3 rocks at Mega Mix Mondays.
Monday nights are mundane no more with the arrival of Mega Mix Mondays at the Velvet Lounge, across from CompUSA in Kaka'ako. Aimed at youths 12 to 18, this all-ages nightclub drops weekly starting Monday and continues through Aug. 2. Presented by Kutmaster Spaz, Ezekiel Clothing and Faith Riding Company, the kick-off party brings in the HIC/Faith Riding Courts classic surf meet party with music by Apartment 3. In the coming weeks, watch for local bands, DJs, themes, Dis-n-Dat TV guest host search, and other fun at this drug-, tobacco- and alcohol-free dance party. Gently used music to your ears

Music lovers from near and far are invited to Hawai'i Public Radio's annual Almost New Music Sale this weekend. Held in the Ward Warehouse conference rooms on the second floor, this treasure hunt yields such goodies as LPs, audio cassettes, CDs, video cassettes, laser discs, sheet music and "gently used" audio equipment. A $3 donation at the door gets you either one free LP or two cassettes. Event times are 2-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. 955-8821.

Free concert by Japan halau

The Tokyo-based Mele 'Ohana Association hula halau hosts its first-ever Ho'ike in Hawai'i starting at 5 p.m. Sunday. For the past 10 years, the halau has previously held ho'ike in Tokyo but decided to bring it to the Islands this time around. Ten halau from all over Japan accompanies the association, for a total of 336 dancers. Also performing that evening will be the band Leo Aloha from Japan. The free concert takes place at the Waikiki Shell.


How to fix up that nest

Get some ideas to give your home a fresh look at the 27th annual Home and Garden Show, starting Thursday and continuing through Father's Day weekend in the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Among the attractions: product and cooking demonstrations with the latest tools and appliances, entertainment on Father's Day with Koa'uka, tips on how to spruce up your place, ideas on creating a "secret garden." Showtimes are 5-10 p.m. Thursday-June 18, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. June 19 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 20. A parade, lu'au, dance

It'll be three days of festivities when The Center Hawaii presents Honolulu Gay Pride 2004. Beginning Thursday and continuing through June 19, this 15th annual celebration parties on with a parade, lu'au, festival, dance and Gay Pride Contest. This year's theme is Pono — Kaulike — Ha'aheo (Truth — Justice — Pride) and features events including:

  • Mr. — Ms. — Miss Gay Pride Contest 6-11 p.m. Thursday at Fusion Waikiki. $10 at the door includes pupu, dancing and show.
  • Pride Lu'au 5-9:30 p.m. June 18 at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
  • Pride Parade 10 a.m.-noon June 19 from Ala Moana Beach Park to Kapi'olani Park. Free.
  • Pride Festival noon-5 p.m. June 19 at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion. Admission is a $3 donation at the door. The festival is followed by a Pride Dance from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at the pavilion. Admission is a $3 donation at the door.

No stranger to music fans
