McKinley head coach Jesse Victorino wasn't there when his Tigers faced Kalaheo the first time this season.

He's looking forward to facing the Mustangs the second time around.

Bre Carson and Meagan Miyasaka each scored 15 points as McKinley beat previously unbeaten Radford, 58-38, in the first round of the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Division I tournament last night at 'Aiea.

In the earlier game, Kalaheo routed Mililani, 80-23.

In last year's state tournament, Victorino received two technical fouls and was ejected from a game.

OIA rules required him to sit out the Tigers' season opener, a 56-51 victory by Kalaheo.

"I want it because I wasn't there the first time; I didn't coach that game," Victorino said.

"When we lost that night, I told them we're going to meet them again, so the next time you get them it's your turn," he added.

The four East teams beat their West counterparts by an average margin of 25 points last night.

McKinley (East No. 4) and Kalaheo (East No. 2) will play in the semifinals next Tuesday at McKinley at 5 p.m. Kaiser (East No. 3) and Kahuku (East No. 1) will follow at 6:30 p.m.

The four teams will represent the OIA at the Division I state tournament May 19 to 22 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Last night, McKinley (9-3) outscored Radford 22-8 in the third quarter to take a 47-25 lead.

Carson hit both her 3-pointers and Miyasaka scored 10 points in the third.

"Bre plays in spurts, she's a moody player and at times I have to tell her take the shot," said Victorino, who added Miyasaka is "one heck of a player."

Radford (10-1), the West's top seed, committed 19 turnovers against a full-court press and half-court man-to-man defense.

"We were trying to run our motion offense at the beginning and get cuts off of that, but they were in good help position," Radford coach David Lane said.
