The two O'ahu leagues are in full tilt to determine their representatives for the state volleyball tournaments.

The Interscholastic League of Honolulu begins opening round play today with matches at various sites.

Lanakila Baptist will travel to Hanalani in the only boys' match at 7:30 tonight.

In girls matches at 5 p.m. today, St. Francis is at St. Andrew's, Sacred Hearts is at La Pietra and Christian Academy is at Hanalani. Also, University will play Maryknoll at Punahou at 6 tonight.

Higher seeded teams play later in the week.

Regular-season champions —Punahou's boys and girls —clinched one of the league's two state berths. If either wins its respective tournament championship, it also will gain the league's higher state seed. If the tournament champion is not Punahou in either, a playoff will determine the overall ILH champion that gets the higher seed.

In the O'ahu Interscholastic Association, the girls begin opening round play tonight at two sites.

At Waipahu High, Roosevelt plays Kapolei at 6 p.m. and Kaiser meets Waipahu at 7 p.m.

At Kalani High, Farrington takes on Nanakuli at 6 p.m. and Kalani plays Campbell at 7 p.m. Also, the JV championship between Pearl City and Kahuku starts at 5 p.m.

The East's top two seeds, Moanalua and Kahuku, and the West's top two seeds, 'Aiea and Pearl City, enter quarterfinal action on Thursday.

The boys are in quarterfinals tomorrow at two sites.

At Kahuku, the Red Raiders will play Leilehua at 6 p.m. and Nanakuli will play Radford at 7 p.m.

At McKinley, Mililani will take on Waipahu at 6 p.m. and Pearl City will play Kalaheo at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be televised on OC-16.
