Krypton Taito ran for touchdowns of 62 and 41 yards as host Waipahu beat Kaiser, 28-6, last night in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association White (Division II) semifinal at Masa Yonamine Athletic Complex.

Waipahu qualified for its first appearance in the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association State Tournament as one of two OIA representatives in the Division II tournament.

Waipahu gained 252 yards in mud-bogged conditions with Taito leading the way with 133 yards on 15 carries. "Coach called the right plays at the right time," Taito said.

On the first play of the game, Kaiser quarterback Shannon Wise was intercepted by Marauders defensive back Russell Heanu. "The mud made it almost impossible," Wise said.

"It (the conditions) threw our game plan out the door," Kaiser coach David Maeva said. "It took a lot out of us, we couldn't throw the ball."

Isaac Saffery scored Kaiser's lone touchdown on a 3-yard dive to make it 22-6 with a little less than eight minutes remaining. Waipahu countered with Taito bolting 62 yards on an option dive over left guard to make it 28-6.
