For 27 years I lived on Oahu(the last 7 years in Florida), only 10 miles from Maitland. From the Regional on, our area papers were filled with headlines, articles and community support for the Maitland Little League team. I learned that a team from Ewa Beach was also in the LLWS the first time I watched Maitland on ESPN.I was shocked when I found little coverage in the Advertiser that same day. Oahu friends didn't even respond to my excited e-mails about the impending clash between Maitland/Ewa Beach. I would be a winner either way. Florida has been in the LLWS almost 30 times and never won it all. Be proud kids-you are Champions and represented Hawaii well. I kinda wish Hawaii had matched Florida in early support but perhaps I'm too far away to know what really happened.
Aloha to all.

What an outstanding game! Gentlemen, coaches, parents, all your hard work payed off! Congratulations! :)Thanks for representing Hawaii well. You maintained your composure, sportsmanship and focus even when it looked like it was over with. That's what makes you guys true heroes! Win or lose we would've still been so proud, but, WOW!, you guys did it and brought home the victory! Talk about a story to tell your grandchildren! We weren't able to see the last inning b/c of our local news so I'm going to e-mail them and tell them they need to replay the game. I'll try not to be too "tita" about it! :)
Once again, mahalo for the awesome game! And remember to always keep that same focus and "hiki no" attitude in life...you will go far!

Aloha & congrats from ATL!!! Ya'll were AWESOME from beginning to end! I had chicken-skin the whole time. I never screamed, cried or laughed so much over a game. Then NBC cut into the Hurricane update going into the 7th inning (as if). I thought I was gonna die!! I had my husband channel surf and there ya'll were, BAM!! home run from Memea. UNREAL!!!! Born and raised in Waipahu and Ewa Beach, Hawaii is still home. EVERYONE now knows what it means to have the Aloha spirit. No one argued during bad calls (we all did the yelling for Coach Aliviado) and none of the boys gave up or whined. They showed maturity, confidence, & patience & they knew they were gonna WIN!!!Yeah Baby!!! Coach Layton you still the same from high school (quiet and laid back). Again congrats LL WORLD CHAMPS & FAMILY!!

My desk calendar for today reads: "That it will never come again is what makes each day so sweet!" How appropriate a statement. What a wonderful Sunday all of you experienced, and what a range of emotions you allowed we fans to feel. Congratulations for a "job well done" and for the "if you believe" attitude all of you displayed. The pride the entire State of Hawaii is feeling is attributed to your dedication and hard work; to your coaches' guidance and to the love and support of your parents and family. Mahalo for giving an Ewa Beach resident like me a moment to share that pride. May our good Lord continue to bless each and every one of you in your coming and going, West Oahu Little League!

We "adopted'' you guys when we visited Oahu earlier (stayed in Makaha) and said: wouldn't it be cool if they won the whole thing! We celebrated with you (Memea's homer!); my two sons played LL and we won our District Championship in 2004, first in 24 years. We know how tough it is and we salute you, the players, the parents and your coach, who did an excellent job of keeping the boys up and ready. You captured our hearts, Ewa Beach! I wish to congratulate each and everyone on your team on a great finish! My friends and family have been following your games from Sun 8-21-05 and we all are so very proud and happy for your win; and your 'no give up' attitude. I must say that yesterdays game was the best baseball game I had ever experienced. It had everything in it (and a little bit more), but the representation the team and coaching reflects; humbleness, intensity and determination.

To the world champion players: I know most of the 12 of you are Filipino or part-Filipino. You and the Honolulu Advertiser reporters should emphasize this to the public, especially in Hawaii where Filipino-Americans are often the worst victims of ridiculous and negative stereotypes as well as bad jokes and discrimination by non-Filipinos. You have to be role models to every youth of Filipino ancestry, most particularly in Ewa Beach, Waipahu and Kapolei where most public school students are Filipino in origin, yet often deny their Filipinoness because of IMSCF syndrome, a psychological disease suffered by pure Filipinos born outside the Philippines who falsely identify themselves as mixed Spanish-Chinese-Filipino. Just search "IMSCF syndrome" on the Internet. Salamat (Tagalog for "thanks".)

Mike and Theresa for allowing the parents to experience the joy of watching their kids play in a once in a life time event. The boys who had the perserverance of over coming adversities and taking the challenge at hand to an inspirational win. We watched all of your games on TV and were very impressed with the execution of defense (three double plays in one game!), the power at the plate, and the speed on the bases. More impressive than that was the attitude and demeanor of the young men who did not panic in any of the games played. We also loved the intensity of Vonn Fe'ao who took over the championship game and shut down Curacao in the final innings. The look that he had in his eyes gave all of us fans the confidence WE needed...and we were just watching!! My wife had chicken skin and she doesn't even watch sports!

I coach Pinto league baseball(7 and 8 Year olds) in California and was watching the game yesterday vs Curacao and was so impressed with the attitudes of the Manager and particularly the 1st baseman and the pitcher who actually tagged the runner out at home on the foot.
Neither the manager, 1stbaseman or pitcher "cried" (complained) about the call to the umpire and instead the manager came out and said "it's cool-no problem" -that was a classy move not to complain and argue like every other guy would have done - the fact that the kids didn't argue was also great sportsmanship and I learned from that. The 1stbase man was actually smiling and having fun-the pitcher stayed calm and didn't cry-great leadership.
However, I didn't like vonn feio's taunting of the other players-not good

When you were down 6-3 going into the bottom of the 6th inning I just thought you folks could come back, just one batter at a time. Then, when it went into extra innings and Fe'ao pitched as though there was no batter who could hit his pitches, I knew you were going to win. Then, when Memea came up to bat I said, he's going to do it, he's due and he'll come through. And then, he did!!!
