Three-time defending state champion Iolani will put its 88-game winning streak against Hawai'i opponents on the line tonight against Punahou.

Tipoff between the Interscholastic League of Honolulu powerhouses — ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in The Advertiser's statewide Top 10 poll of coaches and media — is set for 7:30 at Punahou's Hemmeter Field House.

Each team has a 5-0 record in the ILH. Iolani, which has won 47 consecutive ILH games, is 19-2 overall; Punahou is 15-6.

The teams met twice in December tournament championship games, with Iolani beating the Buffanblu, 71-52, in the James Alegre Invitational and then winning 43-33 at the Punahou Holiday Classic.

In that second meeting on Dec. 30, the Buffanblu played without 6-foot-6 sophomore forward Spencer McLachlin, who was attending his brother's wedding. Punahou also got limited action from starting guard Danny Cho, who was suffering from stomach flu.

Iolani is led by 6-2 senior guard Kyle Pape, who is averaging 18.4 points per game in ILH play. The Buffanblu are led by 5-10 sophomore guard Miah Ostrowski (16.0 ppg) and McLachlin (13.0 ppg).

The Raiders' last loss to a Hawai'i opponent happened on Dec. 8, 2001, when Kalaheo won 68-60 in the Alegre Invitational final. Iolani's last loss to an ILH team was on Feb. 3, 2001, when Saint Louis won, 57-55.

Soccer

Roosevelt boys win

The Roosevelt (8-1-0) boys soccer team clinched the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division title with a 4-0 win over Kailua Wednesday, giving it a first-round bye into next week's OIA tournament.

With one match left in the regular season, OIA teams are vying for playoff position. The top six teams in each division advance to the OIA tournament, with the top two teams in each division receiving byes.

East girls: Kailua (6-0-3) and Moanalua (5-0-4) play for the title tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Kailua can win with a tie.

West boys: The winner will be decided today, the final day of West regular-season matches. Mililani (6-0-2) and Kapolei (6-0-2) are tied for first in the West, and tied each other 1-1 Tuesday.

West girls: Pearl City (8-0-1) can clinch the title with a victory over Wai'anae today. Mililani (7-0-2) also is in contention.

ILH: In the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, the Pac-Five girls upset Iolani, 1-0, on a goal by Kaiulani Manuwai Wednesday. Iolani's loss dropped it into a tie for first with Punahou. Both are 4-1-2, with both of their losses to Pac-Five, after Punahou forfeited a match to the Wolfpack earlier.
