The Christel House Open, a foursome charity tournament, is scheduled for Monday at Makaha Resort & Golf Club.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the Christel House World Championship, Sept. 12 and 13, at the Brickyard Crossing golf course in Indianapolis.

The local winners receive free accommodations in Indianapolis, passes to the LPGA's Solheim Cup, an instructional clinic from Laura Diaz and Wendy Ward, a tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a reception and champions dinner inside the track area of the speedway.

Last year's local tournament at Makaha was won by the foursome of John Matias, Daniel Zane, Alvin Okata Sr. and Alvin Okata Jr.

Makaha is one of 24 sites around the world that will host a local Christel House tournament. Christel House is a charity that works with impoverished and underserved children around the world.

Registration is $195 per individual and $700 per foursome, which includes a box lunch, awards dinner and tee prizes. For details, call Ron Kia'aina at 695-7520.

California man has golf's 'worst swing'

Brian Weir, of Valencia, Calif., was named the golfer with the World's Worst Swing in a contest held by The Golf Channel and Golf Digest.

Weir, a 36-year-old U.S. Air Force major, will receive swing lessons from Golf Channel's Dean Reinmuth and be featured in the August issue of Golf Digest and in a Golf Channel Academy series, airing later this fall.

Hawai'i's Al Matusevich, a retired Wai'anae Intermediate School teacher, was one of four finalists for the dubious distinction.
